Cutting techniques using diamond wire saws

Cutting through difficult materials with the aid of diamond wire saws has been an established method throughout the world for many years now. This cutting process is used principally when other cutting methods in testing materials, research and development and in other specialist areas are excluded for technical reasons.

Almost every kind of material can be cut with our diamond wire saws. The following pages will provide you with examples of uses to give an impression of the wide range of opportunities offered by this cutting technique.

This cutting technique with the aid of diamond wire has proved its value, particularly when used on highly sensitive and expensive lenses (e.g. CaF2). Low loss of material due to the cutting process and the avoidance of jagged edges are of crucial importance here.

In the field of quality assurance, this cutting technology makes it possible amongst other things to open all kinds of closed housings or moulded modules at any point whatsoever by means of a thin cross-cut. This enables the "inner life" of these units to be evaluated without the cut causing significant damage. When dealing with loose inner parts, however, it is recommended that a transparent plastic (e.g. epoxy resin) should be poured into the interior.

The principle advantages of our diamond wire saws are as follows:
